# Use BuildBatch in your AI assistant

Connect BuildBatch to the assistant you already use, then ask it “what do I need to paint my bedroom?”. It answers with BuildBatch's list: the paint, filler, tape and tools, in the pack sizes shops sell, and a link to open the whole list here. It is free, with no account and no key.

The address to give your assistant:

```
https://buildbatch.co.uk/mcp
```

## Claude

In Claude (on the web, or the desktop app), open **Settings**, then **Connectors**, and choose **Add custom connector**. Call it BuildBatch, paste the address above, and choose **Add**. It needs no sign-in. On the free plan Claude allows one custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it under **Admin settings**. [Anthropic's help page](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-about-custom-connectors-remote-mcp) has the current steps.

## ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects to an address like this one in **Developer mode**, where your plan offers it. Turn it on in ChatGPT's settings, create an app with the address above, and choose **No authentication**. Then pick Developer mode and BuildBatch in a new chat. The menus have moved more than once, so [OpenAI's guide to Developer mode](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/developer-mode) has the current steps.

## Claude Code, VS Code, Cursor and others

In Claude Code, run:

```
claude mcp add --transport http buildbatch https://buildbatch.co.uk/mcp
```

In VS Code, add this to `.vscode/mcp.json`:

```
{
  "servers": {
    "buildbatch": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://buildbatch.co.uk/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

In Cursor, add this to `.cursor/mcp.json`:

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "buildbatch": {
      "url": "https://buildbatch.co.uk/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Any other assistant that takes a remote MCP server: the address above, over Streamable HTTP, with no authentication.

## What to ask it

- “How much paint do I need for a bedroom 4 by 3.5 metres, 2.4 metres high, with one door and a window?”
- “What do I need to lay laminate in a living room 4.2 by 3.6 metres?”
- “How many rolls of wallpaper for a small bedroom? I haven't measured it.”
- “How long should I leave between coats of emulsion?”

With no measurements it uses a typical room of that kind and says so. Measure the room for a list that fits it.

## What it can do

**The 4 tools your assistant sees. Each one only reads; none changes or keeps anything.**

| Tool | What it gives |
| --- | --- |
| `quick_room_list` | The list for one room from a job and three measurements, or from a typical room when it has not been measured: everything to buy, in real pack sizes, and a link to the whole list. |
| `plan_room` | The same, with every option the planner has: exact door and window sizes, a product's own coverage and pack sizes, an L-shaped room, tiles part-way up a wall. |
| `find_guide` | BuildBatch's guides for a question about the job, such as how long to leave between coats, with each guide's own short answers and its address. |
| `ask_questions` | The full list of questions to put to you before a detailed plan. |

There is also one ready-made prompt, “Plan a room with BuildBatch”, in assistants that list prompts.

## Whose figures they are

The answer is the same arithmetic as the planner on this site. The paint, pack and allowance figures are BuildBatch's labelled generic examples unless your assistant sends a product's own. BuildBatch was built and checked with AI tools, and has not been checked by a tradesperson. An answer has no prices and no advertisements: its shop links only open each shop's own search. Check the figures against your room, and follow each product's own instructions.

## What is sent and kept

Your assistant sends BuildBatch the job and the measurements it understood from you, or the words of a question for a guide. BuildBatch works out the answer and keeps none of it. It counts how many lists and question scripts were asked for each day, by job and by the kind of caller (here, an MCP tool call), and nothing about you. [The privacy page](https://buildbatch.co.uk/privacy/#assistant-heading) says exactly what is sent, counted and kept. BuildBatch has no arrangement with any assistant or the company behind it.

For developers: [the same interface as web addresses](https://buildbatch.co.uk/links/#mcp), with its OpenAPI description.
