# How many lengths of skirting board do I need? A table by room size

A 3 × 4 m room (9.8 × 13.1 ft) has 14 m of wall round it and needs 14.4 m of skirting board, with each wall cut 5 cm longer for the corners and 5 cm more for each join: 6 lengths of 2.4 m (14.4 m), with none left over. The length is a generic example, not a product’s: use the length your skirting is sold in, because a different length can change the count.

Each row is the planner’s answer for that room, worked out when this page was built. The link at the end of a row opens the planner with that room filled in, to change the measurements and the product figures.

Dividing the wall by the length sold and rounding up comes up short in the 3 × 3 m room (5 lengths, where the planner needs 6) and the 4 × 4 m room (7 lengths, where the planner needs 8). The planner cuts one piece for each wall, 5 cm longer for the corners, with 5 cm more for each join, and a short end can only come from a length that has room left for it. The working of each list shows the cutting plan, and [How much skirting and architrave do I need?](https://buildbatch.co.uk/guides/how-much-skirting-and-architrave-do-i-need/) works through a room.

The lengths are 2.4 m, the planner’s generic example. Skirting sold in another length needs another count: the [skirting board calculator](https://buildbatch.co.uk/skirting-board-calculator/) takes the length yours is sold in.

## What the table assumes

Each room is a rectangle, with one door 0.762 m × 1.981 m.

- Skirting: one piece for each wall, 5 cm longer for the corner cuts; a wall longer than the length sold is joined, with 5 cm more for the join. Doorways are not taken off: the short runs beside a door usually come out of the same lengths.
- Every quantity is rounded once, at the end, up to whole packs. Working uses unrounded figures.
- Skirting board use generic example figures, not the figures of any product. Enter the figures from the tin or pack for a closer answer.
- Sold in 2.4 m lengths (generic example).

## How this table was made

It was worked out when this page was built, by the same room planner and formulas as the editable list: each row is one room sent through the planner. The room sizes are round examples. Product coverage, pack and allowance figures are the planner’s labelled generic examples, not figures for a product.

AI tools drafted the page and automated tests compare every cell with the planner. It has not been checked by a tradesperson or anyone outside the build. No price is shown or used.

## Before you use it

Measure your own room, its doors and its windows. Check the figures against the room, and follow each product's own instructions: they decide coverage, coats and preparation.

Built and checked with AI tools, not yet by a tradesperson or anyone outside the build. Estimates are arithmetic on your measurements and the figures shown with them: follow each product's own instructions.

**Make it your room.** The planner works from your own measurements and the figures on your tin, roll or pack, and gives the whole shopping list with its working.
