Accessibility statement
BuildBatch should work for anyone standing in a room with a tape measure, whatever device they hold and however they use it. This page says what the site aims for, what is built in, where it falls short, and how to tell us when it does.
What we aim for
The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is the aim, not a claim that it has been met: see the note at the end of this page.
What is built in
- Visible labels on every input, with the hint above the field, so that it stays in view when a phone keyboard opens.
- Errors in words, with an icon, below the field they belong to. Each says what is wrong and what to type instead, so colour is never the only signal.
- Keyboard operation throughout. Every control can be reached and used from the keyboard, and the focus is always visible.
- No time limits. Nothing expires, moves on by itself or asks you to hurry.
- Text that can be resized in the browser, and layouts that work on a screen 320 px wide.
- No third-party fonts, and one third-party script. Everything a page needs is served from this site. The one exception is Cloudflare's visit counter, which no page needs: if it is blocked, everything still works.
- An alternative to drawing. The room planner offers a wall-by-wall list, so a room can be described by typing each wall's length in turn instead of drawing it.
Known limits
- The room planner's drawing area is a canvas. A screen reader cannot read a drawing, and drawing to scale is hard without a mouse or a finger. The wall-by-wall list is the alternative: it describes the same room without the drawing.
- Printing relies on the browser. The printed layout is plain, but the print dialogue, the page size and any option to save as a PDF belong to your browser and operating system, not to this site.
Report an accessibility problem
If something cannot be reached, read, used or understood, please report a problem. Say which page it was, which device and browser you were using, and any assistive technology, such as a screen reader or magnifier. A problem using a page is treated as seriously as a wrong answer.
