Wallpaper paste: how many rolls does a packet hang?
Powder paste is sold as 5-, 10- or 30-roll packets (Bond It labels them 95 g, 195 g and 585 g). Four makers give the same figure for a plain paper, 8 to 10 rolls for a 10-roll packet, and then differ. Vinyls, embossed papers and paste-the-wall papers get fewer rolls from a packet, as few as 2. For the wallpaper calculator’s example room, that is between 1 and 5 packets, depending on the paper and the maker.
How this page was made
Kind of page: Worked out, not tested. The rolls each packet is said to hang, the pack sizes and the shelf lives are the makers’ own. They were read from each maker’s product page or data sheet on 29 September 2026. The rolls the room needs, and the packets, are BuildBatch’s own arithmetic on those figures.
It was drafted with AI tools, and the figures were checked against the makers’ pages by a second AI tool. No tradesperson and no other person has checked it. Prices are left out on purpose. How BuildBatch compares products says what “worked out” means and what every page like this must show.
The room
This is the wallpaper calculator’s own worked example: a room 4.2 m by 3.6 m with walls 2.4 m high, and rolls 53 cm wide and 10.05 m long. It takes 30 drops.
- A plain or free-match paper: drops of 2.5 m, 4 to a roll, so 8 rolls.
- A straight-match paper with a 53 cm repeat: drops of 2.65 m, 3 to a roll, so 10 rolls.

What one 10-roll packet hangs
In every table on this page the makers are in the order of their names, A to Z. Wallrock Power Adhesive is filed under Erfurt Mav, the maker whose page it is on.

Each figure is the rolls a 10-roll packet is said to hang, with the maker’s own name for the row under it. The rows are BuildBatch’s grouping: the makers word their paper types differently, and where a maker has no matching row the cell says so. Bond It has one row for vinyls, washables and blown vinyls, so its figure is in both the second row and the third. It has no row for textured or heavyweight vinyl. Bartoline says its figures are “intended as a guide only”, and Bond It’s headline figures are “up to”. Only Bond It says which roll its counts assume, 10.05 m by 0.53 m, the same roll as the example. Water and mixing times are on the makers’ pages and are not repeated here.
Ready-mixed pastes
Ready-mixed paste is sold by the kilo, and the makers give the yield in three different units, so the four products below cannot be set side by side by paper type. Bartoline Easipaste gives kilos per roll, Everbuild gives rolls per pail and kilos per roll, and Bartoline’s other ready-mixed pastes and Wallrock Power give square metres per kilo.
To put them on the same footing, BuildBatch takes a 53 cm by 10.05 m roll as 5.3265 m², and works the kilos from that. It counts the whole roll bought, which is more than the paper hung, so it errs towards more paste. Everbuild’s pail is worked from its 1 kg a roll rather than its “up to 5 rolls”, which is the stricter of its two statements.
The four are not made for the same job, so the answers below are not a like-for-like choice. Each maker’s stated use is in the table. The kilos are for a standard or flat-backed paper: Easipaste’s kilo is for standard wallcovering and Wallrock’s is for flat-backed products, and Bartoline’s 5 m² a kilo and Everbuild’s 1 kg a roll name no paper. For embossed or heavy papers the makers’ own figures change. Easipaste says a kilo hangs half a roll, and Wallrock says up to 100% more paste. So the 8 and 10 rolls here are for one kind of paper, and the table does not say which paste to use.

Packets for the example room
The packets table takes each maker’s lower figure for a range, as paint coverage explained advises for coverage, and the pack optimiser chooses the packets that leave the fewest rolls’ worth of paste over, with fewer packets if two choices tie. Where a maker sells two sizes of packet the optimiser may mix them. The 30-roll boxes are left out. The room refresh planner is simpler: it counts whole packets of one size, from the rolls per packet you type.

The lower figure for a plain paper is 8 rolls a 10-roll packet, so 8 rolls need one packet, and 10 rolls need 2: 1 × 10 roll sachet + 1 × 5 roll sachet for Bartoline. Paste-the-wall papers are the other end. Bartoline’s lower figure is 2 rolls to a 10-roll packet, so the same 8 rolls need 4 packets and 10 rolls need 5. The kind of paper changes the number of packets more than the maker does.

Only two makers, Bond It and Everbuild, say how long an unopened packet keeps, and only Bond It says how long mixed paste keeps. Bartoline and Erfurt Mav state neither in the documents read.
What this does not tell you
- How the paste performs. Slip, open time, strength and how it holds a heavy paper are only settled by a test. None has been done for this page.
- Which paste your paper needs. The wallpaper’s label says how it is hung, and many papers name the paste they want.
- Every make. Two familiar names are missing. No current maker page or data sheet giving roll figures could be read for Solvite on 29 September 2026, and Polycell’s own site no longer lists a wallpaper paste. Neither is compared here.
- Prices. They are left out on purpose.
- Later changes. Makers change their pages and sheets. These figures are as they were read on 29 September 2026.

It depends on the paper and the maker. For a plain paper, four makers say a 10-roll packet hangs 8 to 10 rolls, so one packet covers 8 rolls. For vinyls and washables the lower figure can be 6 rolls, and for embossed papers the lower figures run from 2 to 4 rolls.
Which paste does my paper need?
The wallpaper's own label says whether it is paste the paper, paste the wall or ready-pasted. The paste packet then says how many rolls it hangs, which is the figure the room refresh asks for.
